Animal Crackers - Saying Goodbye to Lola

A Sad Post today - I am sorry. But last night we said goodbye to Lola. Hubby asked if I was going to share this as a post today, and for a second I thought maybe I shouldn't. And then I thought - I share with you all my love and joy about my furry children, and well.. you are reading my Animal Crackers post would want to know the sad as well. So I am sharing Lola with you  -

She was one of our first babies. And we were so thrilled when she was born as she was our first dark faced baby. Her Mom, Cheyenne is the donkey we losta year and 1/2 ago. A very strange coincidence? We don't know, maybe something genetic? Lola's problem seemed to be an internal illness. I am so very sad to have lost this beautiful girl, but I am glad she isn't suffering any longer.

Here is Lola the day she was born May of 2008 -
And here she is all grown up - just over a month ago -
She was one of the sweetest donkeys we have had, and one of the most playful, a copy in looks to her Mom Cheyenne. She was born the same time as Angelina - and Lola and Lina were 1/2 sisters that were always together and a fun pair of girls.

So we say goodbye to Lola - something we hate to do - Hubby and I are just sick about it. I am just not good at all at this part of owning "livestock" when you have as many animals as we do, over 50 donkeys now, it is bound to happen, it is part of the business of raising animals. Animals like people get sick and some make it through, like our Rosie. But Lola just was too sick and could not fight this illness. And while she is "livestock" she is one of my babies, not just an investment for our farm. I have a hole in my heart today - and will miss her terribly. And oddly - she is now with her Mom Cheyenne - Good bye Lola - we love you and will always have special place for you here at Animal Crackers.

  1. I am so sorry. I know how much each and every one of your donkeys mean to you and know that this is leaving a huge hole in your heart. I am thinking she is one the Rainbow Bridge just like the puppies who go there. You will see her again someday.

  3. I'm so sorry. She was just a baby too. Animals add so much to the joy in our lives. A little ironic but we had to put our cat Sadie, 18 years old and born in our bedroom closet, to sleep today. She had kidney disease and pancreas disease. Very sad day.

  5. Michelle, I am so sorry that you lost your baby, but, like you, am glad she is not suffering. That is even worse when you can't seem to help them. I know God will send another to fill your heart with gladness and you will remember her as you remember her mom. God bless you and hubby in your loss.

  10. Awww, I am so sorry. It is so evident how much you care for your "livestock" that there is no doubt you did all the best you could for her. It is hard and always will be but it is part of it and the joy that you receive in the long run hopefully outweighs the dark times. Take care and God bless- you're a great "owner" :)

  17. Really sorry to hear this sad news, its always hard to part with our beloved animals. I had to make the very difficult decision with our dog 3 weeks ago, she was 16 years old and had a good life but it didn't make it any easier. Lola isn't suffering anymore and she is with her mammy.

    Hugs, Barbara xx

  19. Oh Michelle I remember when Lola was born. It is bringing tears to my eyes of this loss, that I can only imagine how you and your hubby must feel and the rest of the babies. Yes they are animals and livestock but they are still family. People told me pooh-bear was just a dog when he died but he was also mu companion for 10 years after my husband died. There are heartless people out there but I understand 150%. My thoughts are with you all

    Big Hugs
    :)
